South America Daily Snow

Dry Through Early Next Week
Summary
The stationary ridge off the Chilean coast will hold firm for a few more days before finally starting its slow march to the east. By early next week, it will be in the Atlantic and there will be an opening for storms to approach the region. These storms look warm to start but cooler air and accumulating snow are likely later next week.
Short Term Forecast
I've been keeping an eye on the stubborn ridge responsible for this stretch of dry weather, and mercifully it will start to move eastward on Thursday. It will take a few days for the ridge to move inland and then eventually out into the Atlantic Ocean. This puts early next week on the radar for a return to stormy weather. Check out the GIF below showing the ridge off the Chilean coast start to move east, cross the continent, and then move out into the Atlantic Ocean.
When the next area of low pressure arrives early next week, as seen at the end of the GIF, it doesn't look like it will have much cold air. We will likely see mostly rain as we return to active weather, with colder air and snow later in the week. Let's hope the first system tracks a bit farther north and brings in some colder air. The details should become a bit more clear by Friday.
Extended Forecast
The majority of models bring another ridge back into the region after the storms next week, but all hope is not lost as one model keeps the storms coming. There's still plenty of time for the pessimistic models to trend wetter in the long range. Next update on Friday.
