Slow and Steady

Summary

Moderate systems have delivered solid snow totals to the central zone this week and that will continue, though things will calm down a bit this weekend. Snow will pick up again early next week and continue through mid-week. The latter part of next week looks dry while the next chance for snow could be next weekend.

Short Term Forecast

Light to moderate snow has continued across the central zone over the last few days, with 5 - 15 cm at most each day. Conditions have been pretty good this week in this region while the northern zone has been dry. The latest storm is moving out Friday morning with a few lingering snow showers but the rest of the weekend should remain dry.

Monday morning should remain dry but the next storm will arrive during the afternoon. This looks like another moderate storm favoring the central zone that will likely track too far south to bring much, if any, impact in the northern zone. I think totals will end up in the 15 - 30 cm range for the resorts in the central zone, though a few spots could exceed those numbers. Below is an early look at snow totals for this storm.

I will have an updated forecast on Monday.

This storm will be heaviest Monday night through Tuesday but may linger through Wednesday before departing the region. Things should dry out later next week.

Extended Forecast

The models diverge a bit next weekend, as a solid storm is expected to once again track through the southern part of the continent. How far north the storm gets will determine if any significant impacts will be possible in the central zone. Some models show this happening while others keep it too far south. I'll have an update on that on Monday.

Next update on Monday.
