Storm Lingers Through Saturday, A Few More Storms On the Way
Summary
We are still seeing some impacts from the upper-level low that's been affecting the region for nearly a week. Additional accumulations are expected in the Pyrenees and western Alps through Saturday. We'll have another small storm this weekend, followed by a break until the middle of next week.
Short Term Forecast
This is just a quick update today, as there have been few changes since yesterday. We still have some snow hanging on in the eastern Pyrenees, and that will continue through Saturday morning. One final wave will then push through the western Alps, bringing a period of moderate snow to the French and Italian Alps.
Below are the latest snow forecasts for the Alps and Pyrenees. Expect 5 - 20 cm in the western Alps and 10 - 20 cm in the Pyrenees.
A few fast-moving upper-level disturbances will bring some light snow to the northern/eastern Alps later this weekend, with 5 - 15 cm expected. A few higher-elevation spots in the central and eastern Austrian Alps could come in closer to 15 - 30 cm, though.
Monday night through Thursday should be dry before the next storm rolls in.
Extended Forecast
The next storm is expected to arrive on Thursday night and continue through the weekend, favoring the northern/western Alps again. This is looking like a solid 15 - 30 cm event with potentially a second storm coming on its heels.
My next post will be on Friday.
