Snow Lingers Through Wednesday Morning

Summary

High elevation snow continues in the western and central Alps to start the week, before winding down on Wednesday. We'll trend drier and warmer through the end of the week thanks to a ridge building in off to the northwest. The next chance for precipitation is next weekend but it looks warm at this time.

Short Term Forecast

It's been snowing somewhere in the Alps for over three weeks now, which is quite incredible. Although the recent storms have been warm, a cold front did lower snow levels for a time toward the end of the week, especially in the French/Italian Alps.

The last breath of this impressive storm cycle will impact the western and central Alps through the start of the week, with rain and high-elevation snow through Wednesday morning. Snow levels are around 2700 m now, but will drop down to around 2100 m by Tuesday. Solid accumulations are expected above 2100 m during this time.

The latest forecast from the European model is shown below.

Things should start to dry out on Wednesday as a ridge develops in western Europe. We should see temperatures rise steadily during that time as well.

Extended Forecast

Another storm system is possible next weekend, but the latest guidance shows warm temperatures dominating throughout the event. This looks like a mostly rain scenario at this time.

Thanks for reading the Europe Daily Snow!

This will be the final standard post of the season. I'll have a season recap post later this week.
