Little Doses of Snow in Mildly Unsettled Week

Summary

Ruapehu copped rain Friday, but light snow followed across most fields. Treble Cone scored 25 cm. More snow is due Tuesday with 5 to 15+ cm at Ruapehu and up to 10 cm in the South Island. A weak front may dust the Southern Lakes Thursday.

Short Term Forecast

Forecast for Monday 14th July

Partly cloudy skies for the South Island with light showers in Canterbury. Mt Ruapehu stays mostly cloudy with a chance of showers and northwest winds.

Forecast Tuesday 15th & Wednesday 16th July

A front on Tuesday brings snow to South Island fields, clearing by afternoon in the Southern Lakes, with Canterbury and Ruapehu seeing rain turn to snow as colder southerlies arrive. By Wednesday, skies clear across the South Island while light snow continues on Ruapehu before easing by evening.

Forecast for Thursday 17th & Friday 18th July

Thursday brings light snow to the Southern Lakes in the afternoon, while Canterbury stays fine and Mt Ruapehu enjoys high cloud and light breezes. Friday looks settled nationwide with dry, sunny weather under a ridge of high pressure.

Extended Forecast

A cold southerly change from Friday night will top up snow across ski fields, lingering at Mt Ruapehu into early next week, while the South Island stays dry under high pressure.
