Europe Daily Snow

Small Storm in the East, Otherwise High and Dry
Summary
A weak storm will bring light snow to the eastern Alps, but otherwise, strong high pressure will dominate the weather for the next few weeks. The latest guidance keeps this high pressure over northern Europe in the long-range, with some potential weak cut-off lows impacting the Alps and Pyrenees during that time.
Short Term Forecast
The ridge over northwestern Europe is just far enough west for a weak system to bring light snow to the eastern Austrian Alps Wednesday through Thursday morning. The eastern Austrian Alps could see 5 - 15 cm of snow, with lesser amounts farther west.
With a large high pressure over much of northwestern and northern Europe, several weak cut-off lows will meander through southern Europe. This will increase the chance of snow showers in the southern Alps. However, these storms may be too far south for any impacts, so we'll have to keep an eye on the track.
Previously, I mentioned the ridge breaking down around the 20th, with possible storms returning around the 24th. Now, it looks like another ridge will develop in its place shortly after the current one breaks down.
Extended Forecast
This setup will continue to prevent major storms from moving into the Alps and Pyrenees. Storms grazing the eastern edge of the Alps and cut-off lows forming below the ridge will remain possible during this time.
My next post will be on Thursday.
Thanks for reading the Europe Daily Snow!
