High Elevation Snow Continues Through Most of Next Week
Summary
Another strong storm has been pounding the Alps, with the heaviest snow focused in France, Italy, and Switzerland. Rising snow levels have kept the biggest totals to upper elevations and this will remain the case moving forward. This system will slowly makes its way east later in the week leading to a break in the action next weekend.
Short Term Forecast
We've now had twelve straight days of snow in the Alps starting Wednesday of last week, and we're not done yet. Although the current storm is much warmer in nature, heavy snow continues to fall up high, especially in the upper elevations of the French and Italian Alps.
The storm off to our west will slowly drift eastward and be replaced by another upper-level low. This will keep rain and snow going through most of next week before moving off to the east. The Pyrenees will get in on the action too as this second storm sets up west of the Alps.
The deepest totals are expected in the high elevations of the French, Italian, and western Swiss Alps, where .5 - 1.5 m is possible. If this was a colder storm, this would be another epic Spring storm cycle, but warmer temperatures will keep snow totals down at mid and lower elevations. Below is the latest forecast from the European model.
If you're still trying to ski and ride the new snow, some of the remaining options include Cervinia, La Grave, Tignes, and Val d'Isere.
Extended Forecast
Toward the end of next week, the storm will start to depart the region and a break is expected. The models show a ridge setting up to the northwest of the Alps which would prevent storms from moving into central Europe.

Next update on Wednesday.
