A bit more snow than expected, fingers crossed for the same again

Summary

Mt Hotham and Falls Creek got 5cm and 7cm of snow on Monday, more than expected. Buller and NSW resorts saw snowflakes, but no significant accumulation. The next few days will be decent before a weak front brings 1-3cm of snow to Victoria early Friday. Hopefully, there's another surprise, as it might be the last snow for a while. The weekend will bring calm weather with high pressure moving in.

Short Term Forecast

Wednesday to Friday (7th to 9th August)

Morning clouds will dissipate for a clear day, on Wednesday, although Buller may still see some afternoon drizzle. Westerly winds will calm and shift to NW.

Thursday will be a fine day with increasing high clouds for New South Wales as NW winds grow stronger. Victoria will see similar conditions, but with some additional low-level clouds.

Early morning light snow showers down to 1500-1600m on Friday will spread across Victoria, clearing by morning. A few rain showers may return in the afternoon. NSW will have a mix of clouds and sunshine, with NW winds diminishing.

The Weekend (10th & 11th August)

Mostly clear over the weekend with some clouds here and there and light winds.

Extended Forecast

Monday will remain clear and pleasant as high pressure moves over the Australian Alps.

Starting Tuesday, temperatures are expected to stay mild, with a few weak fronts bringing mostly rain showers and occasional gusty winds. The snowpack might decrease slightly since even snowmaking will be limited.

Thanks for reading. I'll continue to provide these forecasts every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday throughout the southern hemisphere season.
