By Mike O'Connor, Meteorologist Posted 11 months ago August 4, 2024
Light Dustings Monday & Thursday Night
Summary
A low-pressure system to the north will bring light snow to the Australian Alps today, with Victoria expecting 1-3cm. Tuesday & Wednesday will be clear, though Mt Buller will experience W-NW winds and some afternoon drizzle. On Thursday, cloud cover and NW winds will increase as a front from the west approaches. This front will dip south before reaching the area Thursday.
Short Term Forecast
Monday (5th August)
Snow showers will cover the Australian Alps in the morning, descending to about 1500-1600m. Victoria will see the most (1-3cms), while New South Wales will receive 1cm or less. Skies will begin to clear by late afternoon, with NW winds.
Tuesday & Wednesday (6th & 7th August)
Tuesday will be clear, though some clouds may appear in the afternoon as W-NW winds strengthen. Mt Buller will be cloudier with occasional light rain in the afternoon.
Wednesday will have morning cloud that will clear for a sunny day, but Mt Buller will remain cloudy into the afternoon with some light rain. Westerly winds will shift to the NW.
Thursday & Friday (8th & 9th August)
Thursday will see cloud cover thicken over the Australian Alps as NW winds intensify. Expect a light snowfall down to approximately 1500m during the night, as a front passes over, which will clear up for a nice day Friday.
Extended Forecast
Mostly clear weather this weekend as high pressure moves in. Conditions are expected to become unstable by mid-next week, likely starting with rain before colder temperatures bring snow a day or two following.
Thanks for reading. I'll continue to provide these forecasts every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday throughout the southern hemisphere season.
