Only Weak Weather Systems as High-Pressure Dominates

Summary

High pressure will dominate for the next while, permitting only weak weather systems to affect the Australian Alps. The first system will bring a light snow dusting to western Victoria above 1500m on Saturday, and the second will a dusting to NSW and eastern Victoria on Monday. Otherwise, the weather will remain mostly fine and calm.

Short Term Forecast

Friday and the Weekend (2nd to 4th August)

Friday will be another lovely sunny day with a chilly start for most. The light N-NW breeze will pick up a bit in western Victoria.

This weekend will be partly cloudy with W-NW breezes, which will be a bit stronger in the west. A very weak storm will bring light snow showers to Victoria Saturday afternoon. Baw Baw and Buller will get most of the snow, with just a few flurries elsewhere, falling above 1500m before clearing Saturday evening. New South Wales, meanwhile, will be fine with a little high cloud.

Monday & Tuesday (5th & 6th August)

The Australian Alps will have a deck of high cloud covering on Monday morning. Light snow is expected to spread over New South Wales and eastern Victoria by midday Monday, falling above 1500m, and will clear later in the afternoon. Skies will then clear up for another sunny day on Tuesday. Winds will be light, mainly from the W-NW.

Extended Forecast

High pressure will keep things subdued through the first half of next week. Partly cloudy skies are expected, and cold westerly winds might bring a few light flurries to Victoria. A few more active weather systems are forecast to bring a mix of rain and snow in the latter half of next week, starting around late Thursday.

Thanks for reading. I'll continue to provide these forecasts every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday throughout the southern hemisphere season.
