Snow for the West and the East
Summary
We have an active stretch coming up this weekend and early next week with storms from coast to coast. The Northwest will continue to be favored through the weekend, but the Central Rockies including Utah and Colorado have also trended snowier. The East will see light to moderate snow showers Friday-Saturday, followed by a significant storm for the Mid-Atlantic on Sunday night-Monday.

5-Day Snow Forecast:

More details from our local experts...
Two storms will impact the East over the next 5 days. A weaker storm will bring snow showers to the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic on Friday-Saturday with locally heavy lake effect snow showers. A stronger storm will bring heavy snow to parts of the Mid-Atlantic on Monday, with ice mixing in on the southern side of the system.

Forecast for Fri (Jan 3) to Sat (Jan 4):
Two storms will impact the West with temperatures starting out warm initially on Friday before turning colder on Saturday. The Northwest will see the deepest totals with moderate totals also expected across the Sierra and Central Rockies.
A storm will move across the East with light snow for the Mid-Atlantic, while locally heavy amounts can be expected in West Virginia and favored lake-effect areas.
Forecast for Sun (Jan 5) to Mon (Jan 6):
A series of weaker storms will move across the West with light to moderate snow favoring the Northern and Central Rockies. Some areas in the Rockies could still see some sneaky good snow totals in this pattern.
To the north, a powerful storm will bring deep snow totals to Alaska, though snow levels will be on the rise with rain for lower elevations.
In the East, a strong storm will move across the Midwest and into the Mid-Atlantic on Sunday night and Monday with moderate to heavy snow expected. The southern side of the storm (from Southern West Virginia and Virginia into North Carolina) will see rain and freezing rain mix in.
Forecast for Tue (Jan 7) to Wed (Jan 8):
A storm will develop over the Southwest during this period with snow developing over parts of New Mexico, Arizona, and Southern Colorado before tracking eastward into the Southern Plains. A weak disturbance could also bring light snow showers to the Northern Rockies, mainly east of the Continental Divide.
Strong storms will continue to pound Alaska and Northwest BC with heavy snow, though snow levels will remain high with rain down low.
Arctic air will spill into the East with minor disturbances bringing snow showers to the Great Lakes, New England, and Mid-Atlantic.
Extended Forecast
Outlook for Thu (Jan 9) to Mon (Jan 13):
Cold air will remain over the East with additional opportunities for natural snow, though it's uncertain whether or not there will be any significant storms. At the very least, conditions will remain favorable for snowmaking.
A ridge of high pressure will act as a barrier to storms across the West, though Alaska and Northern BC will see more snow as storms track along the northern periphery of the ridge. We could also see some storms sneak into the Rockies from the northwest, favoring areas near or east of the Continental Divide.
Thanks so much for reading! Next update on Monday (January 6).
