Deep Snow Totals for the Southwest & Rockies this Week:

It has been an active week across the West! Storms favored Tahoe and the Sierra Nevada Range initially, while the focus has shifted inland across the Southwest and the Rockies in recent days.

Some of the deepest 3-day totals from February 5th-8th include 54 inches at Lee Canyon in Nevada (near Vegas), 37 inches at Arizona Snowbowl, 36 inches at Alta, 34 inches at Jackson Hole, 33 inches at Brighton, and 31 inches at Wolf Creek.

Forecast for Fri (Feb 9) to Sat (Feb 10):

A weaker storm will move across the West with moderate snow totals favoring the Southwest and Southern Rockies, with light totals for the Northwest and Northern Rockies. A stronger storm will bring heavy snow to Alaska and Northwest BC.

The Northern Great Lakes will see some light rain and snow showers with minimal snow accumulations, while the Northeast will also see light rain showers as a warm airmass remains in place.

Forecast for Sun (Feb 11) to Mon (Feb 12):

Snow will linger across portions of Colorado and New Mexico into early Sunday, then the next storm will favor the Northwest with moderate to heavy snow developing across BC and Northern Washington, with light to moderate snow for Northern Idaho, Northwest Montana, and Alberta. 

The East will largely stay quiet during this period with a few flurries possible across Northern New England as colder air arrives.

Forecast for Tue (Feb 13) to Wed (Feb 14):

Light snow showers will linger across the Interior Northwest and Northern Rockies on Tuesday with another weak storm potentially making landfall in the Northwest on Wednesday.

A stronger storm is also possible across the East with the Northern Mid-Atlantic and Southern New England currently looking most favored, but we are still several days out so this could change moving forward.

Outlook for Thu (Feb 15) to Mon (Feb 19):

An active storm track is expected to return to California during this period with increasing snow potential for Tahoe and the Sierra Nevada Range. A cold airmass is also expected to settle in across the East, resulting in more favorable snow potential compared to recent weeks.

In addition to our new "Live Snow" data that shows hourly snowfall from nearby weather stations, we built a system to estimate the amount of snow that accumulates on a snow stake camera so that you can track hour-by-hour snowfall for the last 24 hours.

Many ski resorts have snow stake cameras and this allows us to (try to) figure out how much snow falls each hour. We're calling this "Powder Vision".

1. Go to any ski resort screen in OpenSnow with a snow stake camera.
2. Tap the "Snow Report" tab.
3. View the latest snow stake camera snapshot and hour-by-hour snowfall for the last 24 hours.

We have over 60 snow stake cameras available right now and we do our best to add new cams to OpenSnow if we can host them.
