South America Daily Snow

By Luke Stone, Forecaster Posted 20 hours ago July 1, 2025
Mostly Quiet Until The Weekend
Summary
Some snow showers are possible, especially in the north on the Argentinian side, through Tuesday, before we enter a dry stretch. Temperatures are expected to moderate throughout the week, with the next storm possible this weekend.
Short Term Forecast
It's been a good to very good start to the 2025 Winter season across the Andes, thanks to significant early-season snowfall, especially in the northern zone. Valle Nevado has received more than 1.8 meters (6 feet) and was able to open ahead of schedule, with 100% of its terrain now open. Portillo and the Three Valleys (La Parva, El Colorado, Farellones) are in great shape as well.
There are some lingering snow showers in the northern zone this Tuesday morning, especially on the Argentina side, that will taper off by evening with minimal additional accumulations.
High-pressure building in over central Chile/western Argentina will bring warmer temperatures on Wednesday, and a continued warming trend through the weekend. The models are in pretty good agreement that a storm will impact the region from Saturday night through Monday/Tuesday.
Below is an early look as snow totals from the American and European ensembles.
This storm is still more than five days out so I'll get into more details later this week.
Extended Forecast
The long-range models show a return to high-pressure and dry weather later next week, but its still early.
Next post on Wednesday/Thursday.

NEW: Forecast Range Graphs
You can now view individual forecasts from global and regional high-resolution weather models in OpenSnow. This includes forecasts from the GFS, ECMWF, HRRR, and ICON models, as well as the OpenSnow blend.
The graphs give you a behind-the-scenes look at the forecast and make it easier to see if the forecast models are in tight agreement or if there is a wide range of potential outcomes over the next 10 days.
Note: This is currently only available in the OpenSnow iOS app and website (OpenSnow.com). Android will be available soon.
Getting Started
- Go to any location screen.
- Scroll down under "Weather" or "Snow Summary".
- Tap "View Interactive Chart" in the app.
- Adjust the model, timeframe, or data view.
Why is the Forecast Range helpful?
Understand if there is high or low confidence in the forecast. If all models show a similar forecast, there is higher confidence in the forecast, and vice versa.
Dig into the details. If you have experience looking at weather model data and trust certain models or higher-resolution models, you'll be able to isolate your favorite data.
