Spring is KING!

Summary

Spring conditions will continue to rule this week and most of next week. It will get even warmer over the weekend into early next week before a cool-down begins. The end of the month might bring a promise of another small storm.

Update

Good Morning Readers. I apologize I was not able to give you a post on Monday morning like I thought I might. I did mention I would be in the field and my field schedule gets quite hectic. We're up early in the morning and usually work long hours throughout the day, sometimes upwards of 12+ hours. So... my update to get up even earlier to get a post out is pretty minimal at best... to say the least.

Nonetheless, here we are and I wanted to give you a quick update. I'll keep it short and sweet, since as the title suggests we have Spring in control and it's ruling our weather for the most part. It has won the battle against Winter, finally in mid-April.

Storm Recap

The storm definitely performed poorly compared to my expectations. I'll admit I'm confused as to why we only recorded 1 inch of snow when it looks like over 0.30 inches of liquid fell during a time when it was definitely cold enough for it to snow. My forecast was for 3 - 6 inches and I was super hopeful to get at least 4 inches since that would have put us on track for an average April, but alas that didn't happen.

Southerly flow contributed to less spillover, which I think was the main reason for lower totals. Other than that, there could have been a wind-blown component as well. Either way, the storm was not the deliverer that we thought it might be and we're sitting at 29 inches for the month of April.

Previous Couple Days & Continuing

Our last few days have been perfect Spring weather with sunny conditions and warmer temps. That's only going to continue into the weekend. We'll see highs into the 50s by the weekend and maybe even push 60 degrees by Sunday, which is downright hot for us at this time of year!

There's a chance for some pop-up thundershowers on Friday & Saturday of this week but amounts will be minimal and snow levels should remain above 10K FT.

Enjoy the nice Spring weather, since it does look like you'll have to for a while. This Spring pattern looks to continue into next week. We could start to cool off in the middle to the end of next week as a trough approaches the West Coast. There's even a chance for a small storm... but those details are over 7 days out and I won't get into them for another couple of days.

I'll try and get another update out by this weekend as we get closer to the potential stormy period toward the end of the month.

Till the next one... Mike out.

P.S.

I've been enjoying some of the finer aspects of working in Kansas. Check out my capture from the storms that rolled through last night!

We've had several days of incredible storms! As a meteorologist and storm fanatic this is definitely a dream come true for me. I've never been out where the storms are powerful like this so it's a sight to see!
