Friday Recap

We received 2-9 inches for Saturday morning's reports, with Beaver Creek and Vail both receiving 9 inches thanks to very heavy snowfall rates around midday Friday.

We came into this storm with a final forecast of 3-8 inches and an expectation that Beaver Creek and Vail would come out on the higher end and that's exactly what happened. Good stuff all around!

Saturday

The storm cleared out on Friday night and we remain dry on Saturday morning. Temps are currently in the teens and they will rise into the 20s by midday Saturday.

For snowfall, we'll be tracking a weak wave that will slide from south to north across Colorado during the day. We should see our first flakes by late morning, with early Saturday afternoon being the time to watch for the "heaviest" snowfall rates.

In total, I'm going to go with 1-3 inches through Saturday afternoon before the storm clears out through Saturday evening. Saturday afternoon should be a nice time to get out and enjoy the fresh snow.

Sunday

We'll catch a break on Sunday under partly sunny skies. Temps will start in the upper teens and rise into the low 30s. The groomers should be in great shape on Sunday morning.

Monday - Wednesday

Our full attention is now on Monday through Wednesday as a very tricky pattern sets up for Colorado.

First, the primary wind direction will be out of the west-southwest, which isn't great for us. Second, we have decent moisture, which is good. Third, we have good jet stream support, which is also good. Putting this all together, I think we'll be in for some surprises, both on the low and high end but there is still a lot of uncertainty.

In total, look for 1-4 inches each day from Monday through Wednesday, with the deepest totals possible on Tuesday and into Wednesday. Temperatures won't be overly cold so it will be a nice time to catch early December riding with low crowds and soft snow.

Travel Forecast

The road surfaces are mostly wet along the corridor, with snow-packed surfaces over the higher passes on Saturday morning.

Normal travel speeds should continue on Saturday, though light to moderate snowfall between 11 AM and 4 PM could bring more snowy and slick road surfaces.

Mostly dry road surfaces and normal travel speeds return from Saturday night through Sunday evening.

Wet, icy, and snow-packed road surfaces return from Sunday night through Wednesday, with the biggest travel impacts possible on Tuesday and Wednesday. Plan to give yourself extra travel time.

Dry road surfaces and normal travel speeds should prevail on Thursday, December 8 and continue into Friday, December 9. Chances for snowy road surfaces follow during the weekend of December 10/11.

Extended Forecast

Thursday & Beyond

Looking further ahead, we should see dry weather prevail on Thursday, December 8 and into Friday, December 9. These will be two great days to get out and enjoy all of the recent snowfall under sunny skies.

We'll then be tracking another round of snowfall through the weekend of December 10/11. This system looks like it will dive out of the northwest, which should bring us colder temperatures and a chance for fluffier snow quality.

Thanks for reading and stay tuned for daily updates!
