East Coast Storm Brings High-Level Snow

Summary

An East Coast low will bring heavy rain and snow above 1700-1800m to the Australian Alps Wednesday to Thursday. High peaks may get good snow, lower slopes less. Clear skies Friday to Saturday, then a weak low on Sunday may bring light snow showers to the tops.

Short Term Forecast

Forecast for Wednesday 2nd and Thursday 3rd July

Wednesday will be wet with heavy rain and strong southerly winds, with dense snow above 1700-1800m in the morning and night. On Thursday, rain and high-level snow will ease and clear, starting in Victoria then New South Wales, as winds ease and snow levels remain mostly above 1700-1800m.

Forecast for Friday 4th to Sunday 6th July

Friday and Saturday will be mostly sunny with northwest winds, while Sunday brings a few showers, possibly snow at higher elevations, as northerly winds ease.

Extended Forecast

Good news for next week. Between Tuesday the 8th and Friday the 11th, several cold fronts moving in from the west are expected to deliver a significant snowfall to the Australian Alps, with forecasts suggesting up to half a metre of fresh powder.

Thanks for reading. The next forecast will be out on Friday
