Snow Makers kick into gear Tues, Real Deal arrives Sat to start the Season
Summary
Australia’s 2025 ski season starts in six days, but natural snow has been scarce. Resorts are relying on snowmaking as colder weather arrives from Tuesday. A storm is forecast to bring fresh snow from Opening Weekend, which should help kick off the season. Although early conditions might be challenging and lower slopes could be wet, the new snowfall is likely to boost enthusiasm.
Short Term Forecast
Forecast for Monday to Friday: A Dusting & A Tonne of Snowmaking
Mild conditions are expected in the Australian Alps on Monday, but overnight temperatures should drop enough for snowmaking to begin at New South Wales resorts.
Tuesday will bring in colder air from the south, likely resulting in a few light snow showers—mostly just a light covering, though Mt Baw Baw could see a bit more, possibly down to 1000 meters. The chilly southerly winds may linger into Wednesday, keeping things cold and allowing snow guns to keep running.
A high-pressure system will move in on Thursday, bringing clear skies and cold nights.
By Friday, as a southwest storm approaches, northwesterly winds will strengthen. These winds should be cold enough that any passing showers could turn to snow flurries, especially higher up.
Extended Forecast
Forecast for Opening Weekend and Early Next Week: Season Starter Storm
A storm moving in from the southwest is expected to reach the Australian Alps on Saturday and could persist through to Wednesday, June 11. While lower slopes may see only limited snow for Opening Weekend, higher elevations are likely to benefit from strong, cold northwesterly winds that should deliver more substantial snowfall, especially on wind-exposed slopes.
The next forecast will be on Wednesday. See you then!
