Light Snowfall Too Little Too Late, Snowpack on its Last Legs

Summary

A brief cold spell over the weekend brought a light dusting of snow but only temporarily slowed the rapid snowmelt. Falls Creek, Thredbo, Charlotte Pass, and Perisher remain open with minimal terrain. Warmer temperatures will continue melting snow, but a cold front late Wednesday to Thursday may bring a brief pause with light snow on the upper slopes.

Short Term Forecast

Monday to Wednesday (9th to 11th September)

On Monday, westerly winds will bring clouds and drizzle to the Australian Alps, but conditions will improve in the afternoon as winds lighten and shift northwest. Tuesday looks sunny with northwest breezes.

Wednesday starts fine, but showers will reach Victoria in the morning and New South Wales by afternoon, with brisk northwest winds and light snow on upper slopes overnight.

Thursday & Friday (12th & 13th September)

Thursday will bring cloudy skies and light snow showers in western Victoria, with partly cloudy conditions in New South Wales as southwest winds gradually ease.

The skies will gradually clear on Friday as the southwesterly winds die down.

Extended Forecast

Saturday will see a strong, cold southerly change bringing a light dusting of snow, with winds continuing into Sunday, possibly bringing a few more snow showers. Conditions should ease on Monday as high pressure moves over the Australian Alps.

Thanks for reading. I'll continue to provide these forecasts every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday throughout the southern hemisphere season.
