The storm arrives

Summary

Snow will pick up on Thursday afternoon and Thursday night.

Update

It's now Thursday morning and while we are seeing more clouds, it has not yet started to snow steadily.

Snow chances will increase throughout the day, and Thursday afternoon and Thursday night will be the most likely time to see periods of intense snow as the storm's energy crosses over Colorado and the wind shifts to blow from a more favorable west and northwest direction.

I still think 5-10 inches is a reasonable snow forecast range by Friday morning. If we miss a few of the more intense bursts of snow, then we'll wind up on the lower end of the range. And if we get a few intense bursts of snow, we'll wind up on the higher end of the range. Also, one of the most recent models is suggesting that a localized area of storm energy will happen to rotate near or over Winter Park on Thursday evening, and if this happens, then we would wind up on the higher end of the forecast range.

On Friday, we will trend toward drier weather during the afternoon, then from Friday night through Sunday, we'll see cloudy conditions with occasional snow showers and likely light snow accumulations. It'll be an in-between weekend that won't be sunny and warm, and won't be dumping snow and cold - just something in between. The cool weather with snow showers should keep snow conditions on the limited terrain soft this weekend.

Looking ahead, our next chances for snow will be between November 9-11 and about November 13-16.
