Australia Daily Snow

Wind, Sun & Rain Before a Refresh this Weekend
Summary
The weather starts out fine on Wednesday, but northwest winds will strengthen and likely cause some lift issues while a front brings rain and high-altitude snow on Thursday. Skies clear, and winds ease for a fine day on Friday. Then, a short, sharp cold front will deliver about 5-15cm of powder on Saturday, with a few straggling snow showers left over for Sunday.
Short Term Forecast
Wednesday & Thursday (24th & 25th July)
The weather will be mainly fine on Wednesday, but northwest winds will become strong and gusty, reaching 60-80km/h in exposed areas.
Those winds will become even stronger on Thursday, reaching 100-120km/h and likely hampering lift operations, while a front from the west spreads rain over Victoria in the morning, and then New South Wales early afternoon. About 10-20mm of rain is expected before it clears Thursday night, which will fall as wet, dense snow above about 1800m.
Friday & the Weekend (26th to 28th July)
Skies clear up for a nice day on Friday before another front crosses the Australian Alps on Saturday. This front will be shorter and sharper, bringing much colder air from the southwest and a nice top-up of quality powder.
Southwest winds will remain cold and brisk on Sunday, continuing to bring snow showers to Mt Baw Baw and possibly a few light flurries elsewhere, but this will eventually clear by the end of the day.
Overall, we should expect about 5-15cm of fresh powder, but I'll refine that in Friday's forecast. Cold temperatures should also keep the snowmaking crews busy.
Extended Forecast
Cold southerlies may push in a few more light snow showers on Monday, July 29th, but that's not guaranteed at this stage. Then, starting Tuesday, the 30th, a high-pressure system will roll in to bring dry, settled conditions for a few days or more.
Thanks for reading. I'll continue to provide these forecasts every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday throughout the southern hemisphere season.
