Snow Recap

After a slight break on Tuesday morning, the snow machine ramped back up and delivered 2-7 inches through Tuesday night. This brings our 5-day snow totals up to 13-30 inches!

Wednesday

Mostly light snow showers will now continue through Wednesday afternoon. West-to-northwest flow could continue to bring sneaky good snowfall rates so try to get out this morning if you can but bundle up. The temperature will "feel like" near or below 0F through midday ahead of warmer temps during the afternoon.

Thursday

Dry conditions and clearing skies follow on Wednesday night and into Thursday morning. Thursday morning should be a great time to soak in the sun for a few hours ahead of increasing cloud coverage on Thursday afternoon.

Friday - Monday

Our next round of snow will then begin to flow into Colorado by Thursday night and into early Friday morning. This is a very warm system that will lead to a denser snow quality and the chance for rain across the lower valley elevations.

From a total snowfall perspective, we could receive anywhere from 1-4 inches over each 12-hour period from Thursday night through Saturday, with soft(ish) turns for first chair Friday and Saturday.

We'll then be tracking a slightly stronger wave that should arrive around Sunday and really get cranking through Sunday night. I'm still hesitant to get excited due to the storm track and warmer temps but keep an eye on Monday morning for powder potential.

Next Week

Looking further ahead, it does look like we could catch a break and receive mostly dry weather around Tuesday, April 2 through roughly Thursday, April 4. We'll then be tracking another system that should slide near Colorado around Friday, April 5 through Monday, April 8.

NEW: Snow Ratio Forecast

You can now get a good idea of the upcoming snow quality for the next storm via our new "Snow Ratio" forecast for any location in OpenSnow.

When we talk about snow quality, such as “light and fluffy” or “heavy and wet”, we are talking about the snow-to-liquid ratio. The higher the snow-to-liquid ratio, the lighter the snow quality, and vice-versa.

  1. Go to any location screen and tap the "Snow Summary" tab.
  2. Scroll down to the 5-day hourly or 10-day forecast section.
  3. View the hourly or daily "Snow Ratio" forecast.

10:1 will be fun but will feel a little heavy.

15:1 will offer some faceshots and feel pretty light.

20:1 will be incredibly light, almost like skiing through nothing but air.

This new feature is currently available with the latest version of the OpenSnow app installed (App Store / Google Play > OpenSnow > Update) or via the OpenSnow website (OpenSnow.com).
